Lab & Studio Photography
Our facilities include a lab/studio that is specifically designed for
handling and photographing live biological specimens. Insects, plants,
or other small items can be photographed in almost any imaginable
context or lighting arrangement to meet almost any conceivable imaging
need, with ultra-sharp clarity and depth-of-field. Unique,
custom-designed equipment that is not available commercially allows
photography of live insects using unconventional methods.
Live plants or insects can be positioned within a mockup of their natural environment that is indistinguishable from photographing them in the field, with the advantage of having complete control over weather and lighting conditions within a studio.
Insects, plants, or any object (e.g., coins, jewellery, puppy, bottle of fine single-malt scotch) can be photographed against any desired background with perfectly controlled lighting. A subject that is photographed against a white background enables the designer to easily extract the subject from its surroundings using digital techniques. The object can then easily be placed into a document and combined with text or other images to meet scientific, advertising, or other publishing needs.
